Iron and Hovey Cr.

U.S. 97 connects the Cle Elum area with the Cashmere/Leavenworth area via Blewett Pass.  Traveling north on U.S. 97 one follows Swauk Cr. up to the pass (4000' elevation).

IRON CR. RD. # 9714:  Travel north about two miles past Mineral Springs Resort and Restaurant on U.S. 97. Make a left turn into the parking area for Iron Cr. and Hovey Cr..  Although there is no official Sno-Park here, there is often a well cleared parking area thanks to the WA. State DOT.  The Iron Cr. Rd. follows an easy grade along the creek for about three miles. Snowmobiles are not legally banned from this road but it is one of the eight voluntary non-motorized areas designated by the Cle Elum FS district and is not a popular snowmobile route.  It’s starting elevation of 2800' means it is not one of the first routes to be skiable in the fall but it offers essentially flat terrain in a pleasant, forested setting with a modest six mile round trip to road end and back. A spur road at about mile two climbs steeply up to the right and connects with the old Blewett Pass Hwy. by a circuitous route. Other spurs lead right and left out of the valley.
