Howsen Creek Road
The Howsen Cr. Rd. is little used because it is not very well marked in winter and is easy to miss as you drive north along the Cle Elum River. Look for Red Mt. Campground on your left. There should be a designated parking area along the road saying "no trailers". Park here and look for an unplowed road just north from the campground leading off into the forest. This is the Howsen Cr. Road. It winds up towards Sasse Mt. for about 5 miles. , gaining almost 2500 ft. of elevation. The first couple of miles are forested and hold a fairly moderate grade. Higher above the valley, one can gain stunning views of the river, lake and surrounding peaks.
